On December 4th, Mr. Biegaj, the art teacher at Daisy Ingraham, hosted a glazing session for Daisy teachers, staff, and their families. Mr. Biegaj provided glazes and instruction, with assistance from Mrs. Egan and Melissa Ryan. Later, he fired the bowls and delivered them back to WMS for our Empty Bowls Dinner on January 28th. Superintendent Ciccone joined us to glaze, and Mrs. Rose dropped in to welcome everyone. It was a relaxing and fun afternoon in the Daisy art room--thank you to all who made it possible! I really like seeing community art projects like this—there's something very grounding and beautiful about the act of humans coming together working with clay and glaze. So great to see the final product of those bowls, just beautiful, warm, and personal. I can even imagine how much fun and how many stories were exchanged while painting the plates that made them that much more special. Also nice that staff, friends, and students all played a role in supporting a process that includes a wonderful act of craft and humanity. Thanks for sharing these pictures and experiences - I love to be reminded how art can bring thoughtful experiences and stories of shared meaning together for people.
ReplyDeleteI had such a wonderful afternoon at the Daisy Ingraham art room when Mr. Biegaj invited staff and families to glaze bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls Dinner. With guidance from Mrs. Egan and Melissa Ryan, I experimented with different colors and patterns while chatting with colleagues and even the superintendent. After hours of creative fun, I treated myself to a lift oxygen facial Colorado Springs style of relaxation, which felt as refreshing as seeing our finished bowls ready for the January 28th event.
